AR Urbanism was shortlisted for the Old Doha Prize initiative which brought together sixteen architects and urban designers based in Britain and Qatar for an intensive one week design charette focussing on the old city of Doha. The programme was organised by the British Council, the RIBA and Qatar Museums Authority.
The design brief required research into the neighbourhood of Al Asmakh in Doha, and delivery of a contextual design response for the area focusing on heritage-led regeneration, which could be relevant to the future of the old city. AR Urbanism’s team explored the possibilities of providing an organic masterplan model, which is radically divergent from the currently prevalent large-scale, commercial and residential developments typical of the region.
