Hillerød Konstellation (Hillerød South) is an urban extension to this substantial town located north of Copenhagen. The 300 hectare development includes a new regional hospital,4000 new residential units and a new rail-based transport hub 10 minutes from the town centre and also connected to Copenhagen. AR Urbanism led and coordinated the team of 12 professionals including architects, landscape architects, cultural and transport planners and sustainability specialists to produce an integrated, sustainable and landscape focused proposal for this design competition. The site is located near a Unesco-listed woodland and includes flooding issues which called for a water-sensitive, green/blue corridor approach to the public realm, incorporating well-designed movement routes throughout the site and beyond. Cycling and walking is more strongly embedded in Danish culture than driving and the proposal clearly reflected this with a strong structure of safe and attractive connections through and between the new neighbourhoods as well as integrating with the existing town, the countryside, the new hospital and the new transport hub.
