While working for Llewelyn Davies, Amanda Reynolds led the masterplan team on a major brownfield redevelopment proposal at Fiddler’s Reach, on the River Thames in Thurrock. The development client was lead by an RSL – Family Mosaic – and included the local Development Corporation (Thurrock Thames Gateway DC) as a funder, as well as Thurrock Council as one of the landowners – a complex client team. Located south of the railway line into Grays, Fiddler’s Reach was a mixed-use project, which eventually included 1200 housing units, a new neighbourhood centre, shared space streets, new public open space and an extended river walkway along the Thames. The Askews Farm site, part of the same study, is located to the north of Fiddler’s Reach within one of the typical local ex-quarry sites and connected to the wider area with limited roads plus the disused low level railway route to the Thames, which was identified as a potential pedestrian/ cycle leisure route providing alternative local links. This site is still in active industrial use therefore the design project, as briefed, proposed a strategic view of its potential future development.
