A very green but landlocked site, previously used for a school and other institutional functions, surrounded by protected trees, within a conservation area and including an area of Local Open Land. The location is ideal for a medium to high-density housing development because of its proximity to good public transport (trains and buses), a local retail centre, recreation areas and schools.
Consultation with the local community resulted in changes to initial high-density proposals to develop a medium-density mix of 76 houses and flats with a 40-bed extra care home for local elderly people. The housing and the extra care facility overlook the newly accessible public open space adding an important element of community activity, which contributes to the establishment of a ‘lifetime neighbourhood’.
